ACLRC

The Alberta Civil Liberties Research Centre.

The mission of the Alberta Civil Liberties Research Centre is to promote awareness among Albertans about civil liberties and human rights through research and education. We provide education and resources on a variety of human rights and civil liberties topics.

Our human rights education program has developed an expertise on LGBT issues as we have been working for equality of LGBT communities for over 17 years. We have the following resources available:

  • …but words DO hurt: stories from GLBTT youth – a 35 min. video documentary of youth talking about their experiences of being LGBT in Alberta
  • Freedom to Be: A Teachers’ Guide to Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Human Rights, 2007
  • Speakers for classrooms, universities, community groups and organizations on LGBT issues and human rights as they pertain to that specific environment
  • Human rights library with a variety of LGBT videos and publications (click here to visit the ACLRC video library)
  • Youthsafe.net – an up-to-date website of resources and services for LGBT youth in Alberta
  • Youthsafe workshop – on homophobic youth bullying – a full-day workshop for service providers
